jane Fonda and Robert Redford reunite for the first time in almost 40 years in the film version. A romance about neighbours whose spouses have died. Full Kleenex box event!

Lovely book, easy and quick read but very disappointed at the abrupt, sad ending. Did it need to be? I can see this being a terrific book club title as a number of issues can be discussed after reading this book.

I love the quiet understated way this author tells a story. Simply told and always a bit profound. This is a novel driven by character. A look at a relationship that develops between two older lonely people. These characters could be your neighbours. You feel like you know them.

The simply told story of two widowed elderly neighbors in a small town who are dealing with their loneliness in a unique way. From being neighborly to companions to close friends these two characters find strength in each other as they tackle the everyday challenges life brings them. A lovely, poignant story that is a quick read.

What an absolute gem of a book! It’s only 179 broadly spaced pages long, but it’s gentle and wise and sad and when I finished it too late into the night, I sat in bed and cried.

I loved reading the book. I hated the ending.

But now that I'm over being pissed off at the ending of this one, I've read other of his books and loved them all.

I guess I will be the only one to say I didn't like this book. I found it very simple writing style. And the plot didn't touch me at all. Maybe for some retired person it might resonate with familiar relationship. And I don't understand what is a big deal with developing the relationship that Louis and Addie have? If you are old widow or widower you just need to die alone in an empty house? You can't move on even if you are 70?

A beautiful late-in-life love story that is complicated by family. From a notable Colorado author.

I loved this book and the relationship between Addie and Louis. Both characters sought each other out because of their loneliness. Of course people will talk and some find this relationship disturbing. Still it was a beautiful story with beautiful flawed characters.

Is romantic fiction coming back into vogue after many years of disdain by serious writers? Recently I have been delighted by Jojo Moyes and now Kent Haruf. The characters are not all young & beautiful but older, if no wiser, ready to take a chance....a leap in the dark...for the joys that life & love can bring. Delightful.

A lovely book of a story about an elderly woman who is lonely and asks a friend to join her in bed for companionship and physical contact. Her son does not like that his Mom is sharing a bed with an older man.
