Loretta Young a 'screwball?' I only knew her from her dramatic role opposite Orson Welles in THE STRANGER.

Hit and miss with "The Doctor Takes a Wife" and "A Night to Remember" coming out slightly ahead. A safe bet for those late nights with grandma and the kids.

Two excellent comedies with Irene Dunne. Filmed 8 years apart, they both deal with life in a small town. The two comedies with Loretta Young are ok but not her best movies.

While noir is the most consistent film genre, there is nothing more lovely than a lovely romantic comedy. Here, the star is Theodora Goes Wild, the story of one woman's liberation from a small town populated exclusively by fussy old aunts and proto-Teabaggers. Irene Dunne is inspired, though one could wish the object of her affections was not the smug and somewhat creepy Melvyn Douglas. The director makes up for this with a putatively illegitimate baby, and a marching band. Some cute dog and cat action.

"I've got hats that sit on an angle, I tell you, and dresses -- I'm an open secret down to THERE."

"He WILL sketch."

"A Lynn may go wild, but never silly."
