First off, Reisman is a writer of fluidity and beauty. Her topic here, though, becomes one- note and predictable, with her privileged upper middle class protagonists "suffering" (and endlessly) over the accidental death of one of their children, their collapsing marriage and failures to realize their dreams for themselves. And with absolutely no self-knowledge, irony, compassion or humor.
