Edinburgh, 1874. On the coldest day in the history of the world, little Jack is born with his heart frozen solid. Wasting no time, midwife Madeleine takes action and saves his life by inserting a cuckoo-clock in place of his icy heart. And now Jack will live...as long as he observes three golden rules: He must never touch the hands of the clock. He must master his anger. He must never, ever fall in love. But fall in love he does, to a bespectacled young street performer, Miss Acacia, with a soul-stirring voice. Now begins a journey of escape and pursuit, from Edinburgh to Paris to Miss Acacia's home in Andalusia. Based on the novel by Mathias Malzieu, Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart is a fantastical, wildly inventive tale of love and heartbreak - by turns poignant and funny - in which Jack finally learns the great joys, and ultimately the greater costs, of owning a fully formed heart.

The animation & imaging of this peculiar French film is celebratory!
However, I would like to emphasis that it isn't a 'kid' film. It was creepy animation
in the vein of "Caroline" and "Nightmare Before Christmas" but without the uplifting
moral agenda.
I played "Jack and the Cucko Clock Heart" for my middle school students thinking they
would enjoy the drama of a kid their age and animation. But it was just sad & gloomy & doomed as the main characters aged without reconciling amid highly improbable circumstances. Then, the sudden ending leaving no real closure. My kids had so many unanswered questions.
everyone dies

I personally found to be a badly done rock opera, with a confusing and complicated plot.
Not to mention the poorly translated English, or the suggestive material that wasn't appropriate for the young children that watched this and got a double-dose of innuendos!
I mean, between Jack The Ripper appearing out of nowhere and singing about 'sublime women' while trying to KILL Jack, and flowers sprouting out of 10-year-old Miss. Acacia's chest area when she was about to kiss Jack, I wouldn't bother seeing it again, never mind recommend it to my younger friends!
If you're seeing it for the impressive animation, that's a reason for seeing this movie, but other than that, it's not worth a watch!!

Brilliant!!!! Just a brilliant cartoon. This movie has amazing animation and captures the feeling of falling in love more than anything I have ever seen. We watched this movie three times. My 12 year old loved this movie. Highly recommended.

An absolutely gorgeous animated film. Tim Burton's creativity meets the Steam Punk world. In my humble opinion I do not think that this "cartoon" is geared for young child audience. I think that they would be bored and scared for the most part of it. It is an amazing "Anime Noir" for the ones that refuse to grow up.

Q: How many surrealists does it take to make an animated movie? <br>
A: Frozen dive-bombing red cardinals that are never mentioned again!

This steampunk, alt-rock, ballad-filled love story was an adventure that didn't end they way we expected! Another in a line of fantastic animation out of France (though it is dubbed in English!).

Jack: "...Do you often sprout Italian ice cream cones?"

Miss. Acacia: "Only once I eat spaghetti after midnight."
Yep, badly translated English doesn't get much stranger than that!
