Mercy Thompson faces a shape shifter's biggest fear as the realm she has embraced is thrown into chaos... Mercy's life has undergone a seismic change. Becoming the mate of Adam Hauptman - the charismatic Alpha of the local werewolf pack - has made her a stepmother to his daughter, Jesse, a relationship that brings moments of blissful normalcy to Mercy's life. But on the edges of humanity, what passes for a minor mishap on an ordinary day can turn into so much more... After a car accident in bumper-to-bumper traffic, Mercy and Jesse can't reach Adam - or anyone else in the pack, for that matter. They've all been abducted. Through their mating bond, all Mercy knows is that Adam is angry and in pain. But she fears Adam's disappearance may be related to the political battle the werewolves have been fighting to gain acceptance from the public - and that he and the pack are in serious danger. Outmatched and on her own, Mercy may be forced to seek assistance from any ally she can get, no matter how unlikely.

I really enjoyed this one and I would recommend that readers start with the beginning of the series (Moon called) for maximum enjoyment. Plenty of action and very interesting characters. Loved it!

Very good serie.

New nastiness abounds, new fae toys come into play and favours are called in to help the heroes. Everyone comes out safe in the end, families are reconciled, and new nastiness is on the way, I'm sure. Not my favourite, but do love the series.

I love these Mercy books. I loved how all the characters were here in this book. I thought the story line was underdeveloped though. I didn't like how the children were put into danger.

I very much enjoy this book and loved that all the characters from the past made an appearance. Mercy is becoming more confident being the Alpha mate and in Adam's love. Great story!

Another enjoyable read added to this series. Interesting, action packed, heroine becomes more likeable with each book.

This is probably the worst Mercy Thompson book in the series. I loved all the books up till and including Silver Borne (which was fantastic), River Marked was entirely forgettable and Frost Burned was just plain boring. It’s like Ms. Briggs is pumping out these books on autopilot now and has lost interest in the series. Pointless scenes that added nothing to the story were dragged out to be pages long (i.e. Mercy and Stefan’s debate about whether or not to kill the baddies was almost FOUR pages long), the big bad guy reveal came from left field and felt disconnected with the rest of the story, and everything was explained to us through a long dialogue session vs. being shown to us, which is just lazy writing. Mercy also makes some dumb decisions, including one that endangers the lives of children. I like it when my heroines make mistakes, just not glaringly obvious stupid ones. Mercy has also become a little sickeningly, morally perfect. She’ll be furious at the scum of the earth one minute, and then resolving to come back and save them the next, granting them peace in the afterlife while she’s at it (and veering dangerously close to Mary Sue territory). Oh, and the way the wolves were saved from the bad guys was so ridiculously, stupidly convenient it just screams sloppy writing. Be warned that obscure characters from previous books will make an appearance (a significant one), so if Mercy’s other books aren’t fresh in your mind, you may feel a little lost. It’s unfortunate, but it looks like this series is going downhill now like the Sookie Stackhouse series did after a certain number of books. It’s also unfortunate (to me at least), that the next Patricia Briggs novel to be released is another Mercy Thompson one instead of a 4th installment in the Alpha and Omega series (which I infinitely prefer to this one).
