The Practice of the Presence of God by Brother Lawrence is a record of the conversations and letters exchanged between Brother Lawrence and people in his community, who came to him for advice. As a Man Thinketh by James Allen gives examples to illustrate how "mind is the master weaver, both of the inner garment of character and the outer garment of circumstance," so that people may begin to weave in enlightenment and happiness.

The narration leaves much to be desired as does the content. It is only barely worth listening to. It is actually 2 books and some letters. The first is the practice of the presence of God. It is a kind monk's take on life. It is escapist, it is simple. But by that I do not condemn the man. He was a good man, who cared for others and truly believed that his simple philosophy would bring happiness and meaning to all. For my part, I cannot accept such a simple answer to the complex questions I hold. The second book "as a man thinketh" is not worth listening to. It is not worth being published honestly. An earlier version of "the secret". Positive thoughts lead to happiness, inside the trappings of "science". But the first book and the letters are from a good if simple man. And as the song says "tis a gift to be simple". I can in no wise condemn a better man than me for having that gift and having earnest belief.
