I am forced to disagree with the other reviews. I found this book to be somewhat dull. The Russian plot part was somewhat difficult to follow.

I was surprised to find these books written in the mid 50's in the heat of the cold war. I just assumed they were all done in the late 60's and 70's probably because I started seeing the cheesy movies around that time. This was another brilliant piece by Fleming that did not even mention James B. for the first 100 pages. It is hard to read though without thinking of the horrible Roger Moore movies and of course Austin Powers. It is decent fluff though to supplement my more serious endeavors like who really shot JFK and proof of Lizard aliens conspiring with the illuminati to usher in a New World Order and agenda 21.

Great read. First half of the book is from the Soviet view and pretty enlightening given the Hard/Soft policies of Russia today.

On my reading list of thrillers; it is first time that I have read an Ian Fleming novel (007). The novel does an excellent job of introducing us to the Russian spy agency as well as the secret service of the British. Excellently written it richly describes the characteristics and motives of the two protagonists with a simple storyline. The ending leads you to believe there is more in the next series of books. Recommend.
