I love a good survival novel, especially one set in a destroyed future. The Testing is a cross between The Hunger Games and Divergent with some new interesting twists. This novel was fast-paced and exciting and I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Joelle Charbonneau’s 'The Testing' was a sufficiently entertaining read. Doctor-at-Bass Fishing! T. A.

While there are aspects of this book that are certainly not original, I found myself devouring the book anyways. Too often in dystopian novels (particularly when they are YA) what ever cataclysmic event happened to change the world is glossed over or only hinted at. The Testing does not have that problem. The war and destruction that led to the creation of the government and society in this book is an essential part of the plot and while it does not get analyzed and explained in detail, it is not ignored or omitted. I was pleasantly surprised by this book - I worry about whether the others in the trilogy will fall into the love-triangle-protagonist-must-save-the-world pattern that many other dystopic YA pieces do, but this book was a strong enough foundation that I still want to read the rest of the series to find what happens next.

This book was amazing! I read it in 5 days! If you liked the hunger games you will love this book! I wish I could give it 100 stars!! And I know people thinkbl its a copy cat of the hunger games. But when people say that. I know it's a good book because it's like the hunger games.

Wow! When I picked up this book, I was told that all Hunger Games readers would love it. I actually loved even more than I did the Hunger Games! The books magnificent writing, characters with life-like emotion, and a story seemingly ripped from both the Hunger Games and Divergent. I give this book a 10/10, and a "Must Read Now!" rating.

Separate Note: Don't think when you see the reviews below me that people are split whether or not they like the book. Once you scroll past about 2-3 negative reviews, it is nothing but positive from there.

Quite similar in tone, action, suspense and activity to Hunger Games; definitely one I'll suggest to my 14-year-old as she loved the Hunger Games series.

The first part of this book was really good. The second part, though, sent the book spiraling downhill. It had plot holes, twists, and crazy loops to be confused with a five year old's scribbles. This book is really not that good.

The Testing is Joelle Charbonneau’s Hunger Games clone. Young people from post-devastation colonies are selected to compete for spots in the government’s university, like some juiced up Gaokao. The testers are sadistic and the tests have consequences.

It wasn’t badly written, but I can only recommend it to people who liked the Hunger Games and dislike novelty. Oh! Here’s a difference: The female protagonist is only in love with one boy. I guess that makes it un-Hunger Gamesish.

the characters are boring and cliche, and slightly unrealistic.
