I borrowed the audio book and was captivated by the story which was enhanced by the reader. She captured the character of Luz perfectly. Somehow I wondered if I was missing something by not borrowing the actual book and seeing the loteria cards. The story stands on its own.

I loved seeing all the lotería cards in this book, and the voice of the girl narrator comes through very well. Some reviewers thought the cards didn't work as a narrative device, but I can see how she would use them as prompts for telling her own difficult story.
