"Lars is excited that spring has finally arrived and on his walk along the big bay, he meets up with a group of belugas. He and the whales have a wonderful time swimming and playing until a ship comes into the bay in pursuit of a giant sperm whale. Realizing that they are in danger, Lars helps his friends elude the hunters. When the men leave, the friends discover they have a new problem. Hiding behind the glaciers saved them from the poachers but the warm spring air has caused large chunks of ice to fall into the water, and the exit is now blocked. Working together, the friends free themselves and promise to meet again soon"--School Library Journal.

Lars helps some whales who become trapped in a cove. This book about Lars once again touches on environmental issues in the arctic.

Lars helps some whales escape from whalers. Once again the author speaks to a key issue of the arctic without making it too serious. Lars is an excellent role model though, for he is always kind, and will help out any species.

Lars encounters a sea bird who leads him to go finishing with some beluga whales. A sperm whale warns them about some whalers, and they hide in a cove. The warm weather causes the arctic ice to melt and block the cove. Lars the smart bear that he is takes a sail from an old ship so that the whales can slide over.
