On August 29, 2005, hurricane force winds, torrential rains and a series of failed levees decimated The Big Easy and virtually destroyed one of the most unique music cultures in the world. In the weeks and months following the Katrina disaster, filmmaker Robert Mugge captured the shock, sorrow, and courage of New Orleans musicians as they struggled to return to their homes, rebuild their careers, and revive their devastated community.

Having participated in many post-Katrina New Orleans rebuilds, I really enjoyed the musical performances on this DVD as well as interviews with musicians affected by Hurricane Katrina. This DVD highlights the variety of different musical styles that come out of New Orleans as well as telling the stories of evacuations, loss of homes and belongings, disbursement of friends and fellow bandmates, and the struggle to rebuild their lives as well as the generosity of the music community in evacuation destinations.

Watching this DVD made me want to see these various musicians perform and I have since 2005 seen many of these musicians play both at home and in New Orleans; last year, I enjoyed the Iguanas' performance at their Wednesday night gig in the Circle Bar.
