Everytime I hear the name Orson Welles, I hear the word genius in the same sentence. This film confirms the observation at least for me. The essay/doc is a unique approach that I quite enjoyed. Plus the extras were just as rewarding. I like it when a film introduces me to a new world or a new journey. Shame on me for visits to NY City and not one art museum visit. This film will change my tourist behavior next time around. Great film! Enjoy!

I wanted to like this because I had just finished THE HOAX movie and thought Clifford Irving would be interesting to find out more about. But this movie, extreme Orson Welles, was too strange for me to get into. The 60 Minutes interview of Clifford Irving was interesting.

After years of dragging my non-filmgeek friends/girlfriends into Orson Welles movies with me, it occurred to me that the main gripe your average movie-goer has against his films is that they're "interesting for the sake of being interesting" as the most common reactions seem to fall along the lines of: "there was just too much going on, it lost me" or "it was cool, but what was the point". This, more than any other of his films, most definitely fits that bill. Less a documentary than a rumination on the evaluation of art; "If a faker fools an expert, then who's really doing the faking?" is the central question this film essay poses. Great documentary on second disk for all you Orson-heads!

Very strange movie. I only got about 1/2 way through it, before I gave up trying to figure it out. If you have an in depth knowledge of the Howard Hughes story this would likely make a lot more sense, but I don't.
