Ernest Hemingway wrote the book for this classic Black and White movie. So many stars you don't know who should get star billing. I am a Burt Lancaster fan, so he has me but good in "The Killers". Criterion Collection has distributed the film and they only pick historically classic movies from around the world. You can go wrong with "The Killers"!

I found none of the versions particularly interesting, though I liked the 1946 version a bit more. In that version, the film is mostly comprised of the backstory of the boxer; the story upon which its based is filmed and over with in about fifteen minutes, the rest of the film is the invention of the filmmakers. The best part was the inclusion of an audio recording of the story among the extras on disc one.

Classic film noir . The killers in the diner scene is one of the greatest ever filmed . Dark and doom ridden throughout ~ 420

Though the other comments say that this is the 1946 version despite the DVD cover, by the time I got it, it was the 1964 version! Disappointed that the BPL doesn't appear to have the classic.

At a glance, the boss could have been one of the killers threatened by the gorgeous mysterious woman's previous interest in the victim.

The DVD case said 1964 version, but the disc was the 1946 version. I can't compare them.

1946 Version. Film Noir at it's best, good story with contrasting black and white lighting.......awesome. Lancaster, Gardner & O'Brien are all top notch.

This is a great little film! The last scene makes you want to watch it again - classic!

The Killers; 3.5; What I liked most about this was 4 versions of the same thing; no really. The audio-book; the straight Russian adaptation movie/play; the 1st & 2nd American movie versions; and the commentator's explanations helped me notice the time-line influence. A short story, that started with some darkness is drawn out in some different ways. Definitely “noir”, but with characters I suspect good actors would kill to get; and these actors brought them to life

Ernest Hemingway's The Killers---- (DVD - 2003) I really liked this movie:the 1964 version. My just about becoming a teenager: seeing this movie was not an option. It was like memory row seeing again what the world was like then. ---- Ronald Reagan was funny as a criminal/Tough Guy-as we all know about his leadership in this Country.---- The 1946 version of the show I don't think I'll watch. ---- 1964 Version was fun and clumbsy as most things were in the 1960'3 ---- Enjoy! ---- RichardPaul (finished 4-27-13)
