DCI Alan Banks and DI Annie Cabot have separate suspicious death cases the are linked. Police procedural mystery style.

4- 4 1/2 star read. Book 25 in Robinson's excellent Inspector Banks series was another good read. I think his books get better as he goes along. In this book, Banks and his team investigate two suspicious deaths. A young woman's body…

Another enjoyable Inspector Banks mystery. Just a little short on the mystery for me.

The book was an interesting look into how the British homicide unit operates, compared to US police departments. It was a little difficult to get immersed into, because of my not being familiar with places and sites in England, as well…

JOANNE'S MYSTERY PICKS The body of a young woman is found in a car recently involved in an accident. The car had been tagged with a POLICE AWARE sign indicating that the accident had been investigated and that the car was waiting to be…

Another superb addition to the Inspector Banks series, the characters continue to develop and mature.

I found this to be quite boring, despite an interesting case to solve - three dead bodies found on same w/e but, initially, no apparent connection and no certainty as to whether they were murder, suicide or accidental death. The problem…

Some mystery series you love because of the continuing characters and want to know more about their lives. Some you love for the mystery. The best, of course, is when both are great. I found the detective story line in this particular book…

Too much detail & not enough red meat. A third of the way into this book, I know all about the music that everybody likes {including piece names & composers) all about their lifestories & relationships but almost nothing about the deaths…

Not Robinson’s best ... far too much brand- and name-dropping for my taste, slows the story & makes for a longer read than necessary. Too bad ... Banks is an interesting character & stories have good potential.

There's no suspense at all. Not worth your time.

Getting dangerously close to self-parody, with everything accompanied by descriptions of the detective's (and presumably the author's) favourite music.

I think that Peter Robinson has run out of ideas and energy when it comes to Banks. Too bad.

I have also read all of the Banks novels, and I think this was one of the best. I couldn't wait to get back to reading it.

Enjoy the Inspector Banks series, this one seemed to waffle on a bit until the end. Still enjoyable, building up to the next book I think.

I have read all of the Inspector Banks series, and have been disappointed in the past two books. I used to find the character development, relationships between the investigators and the romantic tension between Banks and Annie to be very…

Very flat, no excitement, seemed tired. Noticed it happening a lot in various long-running series. Hard on fans waiting for next book with great expectations and for writers living up to them.

NOT at all up to Robinson's usual standard. Quite disappointed with this effort. Felt like Banks and team lost their investigative/intuitive skills. Also got the impression that a lot of dialogue was created as filler (to make up the…

This was kind of middle-of-the-road in quality. The writing is mostly good, Banks is still a thoughtful guy, but the plot seemed kind of low key, and it seemed like half a book's worth of content.

Excellent. I love how Robinson's books follow a time-line and the characters merge and change as their lives change. This one is interesting in that he links the story to one that occurred earlier in another book, and sets the stage for…
