Well, it was sad to me that a storied author like Atwood of "Handmaid's Tale" fame could manage to make a dystopian story tedious. But there you are.

I read this for the "Orange on the Cover" part of my 2020 reading challenge. It wasn't what I was expecting, but at the same time it was very "Margaret Atwood". I enjoyed the characters and the story, and was frequently surprised by what…

I deeply disliked this book. I love Margaret (Alias Grace, Handmaid's tale - brilliant) but this book seemed filled with every bizarre idea she ever had and the most annoying characters imaginable. Absolutely hated it.

Margaret Atwood has always been one of my favorite writers*, so I'm shocked to not only rate this book so low, but to have given up reading before I was halfway through it. I just could not spend another minute with either Stan or…

I'm not sure Atwood gets enough credit for her wicked sense of humor. What starts out like another distressing dystopic survival story turns into a more personal tale of sexual betrayal and revenge. Not for everyone, but I ate it up.

The weirdest book I've ever read. Absolute garbage.

Don't know if this is agreeable with, but this book very much reminds me of a Shakespearean comedy--full of crazy and unpredictable twists and turns and complete with a satisfying ending. Definitely an entertaining read; really allows you…

This book is so good , I could not put it down! I am so surprised at the negative comments left for this book. The end does get touch on the side of the absurd and camp, but all in all it's a very voracious and fun read.

I was excited about the back cover summary, but this novel really let me down. I found myself scanning and skipping chunks of rambling, unnecessary minutiae just to get through it to see how it would end. That too was disappointing. …

I always read Margaret Atwood - it's a rule! I did enjoy this book but it isn't my favourite. I still find her earlier work the most compelling. However, the thing about Margaret Atwood is that even though she is setting books in the…

Charmaine is a Pollyanna-esque woman who tries to see the good in every situation. Stan, her husband, does not. They aren't exactly opposites, but there's quite a gap; however, when they have the opportunity to join Consiliance and the…

An interesting scenario where a young couple, rendered homeless by a financial crisis, agree to be part of a project whereby citizens spend half their time in a heavily controlled, suburban existence in a town that revolves around the…

OH MY GOSH, I could not put this book down!!!! So, so good. Good readable style and a great story that makes you think... Definitely recommend. How have I not been reading Margaret Atwood all these years????

Eh. I almost gave up around page 100, then the plot took off for a bit, then stalled again but I was too committed to actually give up. The writing was fine; the character perspectives made things interesting at times. Things never felt…

I stopped liking Atwood for a while after having been a big fan of her early work. This is the first book of hers that I've liked in a long time. It just resonated with me. I liked the characters and I loved the concept. The ending was not…

Stan and Charmaine are a couple who faced the economic collapse bravely but then wound up living in their car. When things look their darkest they see an ad looking for participants in an experimental community. They jump at the chance…

This has to be the dumbest book I have ever read by Atwood. Reading the last 20 pages was like crawling over broken glass. There seems to be no point, and the book is uneven in its message and I couldn't care about any of the characters.…

I really enjoyed this book. It all sounded so hopeful at the beginning but then the twists and turns of the plot lead to some really bizarre and sometimes darkly humorous conclusions.

Normally I love Atwood, but I just could not get into this one. It's atypical of her normal storytelling and maybe it's a good thing to stretch every once in a while.

The Heart Goes Last is without doubt futuristic and satiric, but I didn’t find it dystopian. A world of relative comfort and bounty with a corporate upper class with unethical and sinister designs, a duped population, and a disinterested…

The writing is wonderful as usual -- precise and funny. I am a fan of Margaret Atwood's writing, particularly her near-future speculative fiction. This is pretty grim stuff, though. Moreso, even, than Handmaid's Tale or Oryx and Crake,…

It's about choices: how we make them, why we make them and how we justify them to ourselves and others. I thought it was a very interesting story and though, at first, I was disappointed by the ending I felt the light bulb go on a few…

Its like Station Eleven, but not or Bird Box, or Partials Why? I think "Atwood has left the building" Is that all there is? End of civilization to write about? Is it age and simonize? Margaret, Margaret please come…

I did not finish reading this book which is rare for me. And reading everyone's comments it seems most people did not like it. Perhaps it should not have been published at all, rather than expose a good author's mediocre work. Or maybe…
