You need to look at this book as character-driven, not plot-driven. The plot is light, only there as a backdrop for Melissa’s development, which is deep, thoughtful, and well-paced. Her story is about gaining confidence in who she is and…

I read this book as part of a group challenge to explore frequently banned books. Immediately I was drawn into the story and found it to be very heartwarming. I have since shared it with many friends who are raising children who have…

Perhaps one of my favorite books, Melissa's story of acceptance is important. Features a trans main character.

A delightfully affirming story. I wish this had been available when I was a kid, and I still found it healing as an adult.

Such a sweet and wonderful story. It is so good that kids who have the same struggles as Melissa have books like these to make them feel not so alone.

It's a great middle grade read in the same vein as books by Andrew Clements. Lovable characters, sweet story, and easily understandable. 4th-6th graders would be the best audience for it, but I had a great time reading it as an adult.

This was a great book to read. It's most suitable for younger kids, but anyone can read it if they want. Just pointing out that they have the wrong image, it should be either the “George” cover or the newer “Melissa” one instead of the…

Ya. It's the same book as George. The publisher is changing the title. The author wrote a blog post about why. http://www.alexgino.com/blog/

This is an excellent middle school read about a 5th grade boy that knows she is a girl and trying to navigate being transgender. I also enjoyed the author interview at the end of the book.

A nice friendship story about a little boy named George who knows he's a she, but don't know how to tell his family and friends about it. I feel this book is great to start a conversation on gender. It definitely offers food for thoughts:…

George is a girl that everyone thinks is a boy. Until she starts to tell them all, one by one. This is a story of a 10 year old trans girl and part of her journey from George to Melissa. It's a kids book, and an easy read, and probably…

Totally endearing story. I have first hand knowledge of how it feels to know that one is different at an early age. I was 8 when I first realized I preferred the company of other boys and of course I had no idea what that was called until…

Really liked this book even though from the title I did not expect what the story ended up being . Sweet story and certainly gives perspective on how the person trapped in the wrong gender body feels and thinks . Would recommend this book .

George wants to play the role of Charlotte in the school play, but her best friend Kelly earns the role. George's teacher stresses there are too many girls who want to play the role, and it wouldn't be fair to cast George in it. At…
