The Sound of Money. SoF is "based on a true story" the way The Conjuring movies are -- modelled on events in the vaguest possible way, and when you look into it, even those events didn't occur. Tim Ballard has been to Central America. That's about it for accuracy. And speaking of Tim, he's currently under multiple investigations for SA, before, during and after Operation Underground Railroad, and has been disowned by the leadership of the LDS Church, who previously backed him. He wasn't even allowed by OUR to attend the movie premiere. The film itself? If you like so-bad-it's-good, melodramatic cheese, or if you want to see it for political reasons, go ahead, you'll probably like it. Otherwise, don't waste your time. See: "Tim Ballard faces four new criminal sexual assault complaints in California, attorney says", The Salt Lake Tribune. BS documentary based on the BS book of the same name. You can't attract attention and make money with a film that concludes "Carol Ann Fugate: still guilty", but you can if -- twist! -- you claim she's an innocent victim, and bend the facts to fit your narrative.
In the giddy words of director Nicola B. Marsh: “It’s always really amazing when you get the opportunity to upend a narrative that has really calcified and become kind of like lore,” Nicola explained in an interview with the Lincoln Journal Star in Nebraska. “I thought it was really cool to try to really break that story from Caril's point of view. I know some people have done it, but it wasn't really in the mainstream telling of what happened in 1958.” Really cool. Uh huh. Eleven people died horribly, Nicola. Long story short: if you want something closer to the truth, check out more unbiased assessments of the case, like Starkweather by Harry N. The beloved marital r*pe classic. But a "dirty" sex worker is rescued by a "Christian" man, so that makes it okay. He's named after Hosea of Bible fame, who married a prostitute. Why can't Angel see their marriage is meant to be? Heaven knows a woman is incapable of making her own choices. There is also child SA and other extreme forms of mental and physical abuse. But that's mostly committed by the non-religious, or the wrong kind of Christian. Catholics are apparently out of luck. On top of that, it's racist to Native Americans. Fun fact: some people recommend this book to young teenagers. The beloved marital r*pe classic. But a "dirty" sex worker is rescued by a "Christian" man, so that makes it okay. A girl is forced into being a dragon rider, finds out she is very special (surprise) and just the best, and thinks about sex a lot. She doesn't think much about how her society makes no sense and how fellow recruits are allowed to murder one another -- sounds counter-productive. A lot of the same happens, until the end when new characters show up to say there's a revolution. This is going to be part of a series. A young woman with burn scars finds self-worth when a young man can't stop thinking about her breasts, and talking about her underpants. They decide to meet up once a year (see title) until they mature. This doesn't happen -- it's a Colleen Hoover book, after all -- but there are six years of "cute meet-ups." The big reveal near the end of the story is disgusting, but the lead characters are okay with it. They're in love. Michael Lewis's apologia for ethical (sic) altruist and financial wizard (sic) Sam Bankman-Fried. There's a lot of blame to go around, but Lewis attributes little to Bankman-Fried. Nothing shakes Lewis's belief in his essential genius. Sure, he misplaced a billion or two or nine; could happen to anyone. It should be noted this book was published before Bankman-Fried's trial. The book Michael Lewis wants you to forget he wrote; before Going Infinite, anyway. Long story short: the "inspirational" story of an athletically gifted Black teenager who grew up in poverty before being adopted by a wealthy white family who helped guide his path to NFL stardom is substantially untrue. It's in fact a story of financial abuse the author somehow missed, which is currently before the courts. See "The back-and-forth over ‘The Blind Side’ misses the big picture. More about the author: Scott Ritter is a convicted s. offender and hebephile, who spent two and a half years in prison for several offenses. See: Scott Ritter’s Other War, New York Times Magazine.
In April 2022, he posted a tweet claiming that the National Police of Ukraine was responsible for the Bucha massacre and calling U.S. President Joe Biden a "war criminal" for "seeking to shift blame for the Bucha murders" to Russia. The police only entered the city on 2 April, a day after the dead civilians were discovered. Investigators such as Human Rights Watch link the killings to the Russian military. Ritter was suspended from Twitter for violating its rule on "harassment and abuse" after this, but his account was reinstated the next day.

There is less here than meets the eye. Once you've heard the premise of The Menu -- wealthy foodies visit an island restaurant run by Ralph Fiennes -- you could write it yourself, barring the odd twist. The script seems like a first draft, if one with big ideas. What makes the difference is the cast: Anya Taylor Joy, Nicolas Hoult, and many more, who were attracted to this project for some reason. Maybe they were hungry. There is less here than meets the eye. If you like entitled and condescending people, is this the film for you. Couple in their thirties with an oops pregnancy are shocked their parents will not put their lives on hold to look after the new arrival. They embark on a cross-country odyssey to find "supportive" family and a "place to lay down roots", i.e. someone who will give them free babysitting. After visiting many a mean-spirited caricature, they reconnect with friends in Montreal and decide to move there [speaking as a Canadian, I am THRILLED at the idea of slackers from the U.S.] SPOILERS AHEAD: Only to change their mind when it turns out the female of the duo's family left her a house in Florida and they move there instead. Never mind Montreal friends could use help and care; don't they know the travelling couple are the only people allowed to have problems? They're just so special! If you like entitled and condescending people, is this the film for you. The influential 1990s classic of gender essentialism, which made that era a little bit dumber. Men and women are fundamentally different, you see; it's biology. Not only that, all men and all women are the same. Thus, it falls to the woman (surprise!), to explain, to clarify, to praise, to coddle -- because what man can understand their emotions and needs? But remember: men hate nothing more than a woman who tries to change them. Once upon a time, there was a man who constantly forgot his wife's birthday. One year, instead of reminding him well in advance like a good wife should do, she let him go out to lunch with a friend. And at the end of the day, she asked "did you two celebrate my birthday?" Rather than being embarrassed, apologizing, and taking concrete steps to being more attentive, the man had a revelation: "it's her fault, really. My wife is not showing me ENOUGH RESPECT!" That man was Emerson Eggerichs, and thus the principal (and pretty much only) idea of Love & Respect was born. Throughout, women are urged to ask themselves, whether their husbands are threatened by them getting a job or threatening them with knives, "what can I do to show my husband more respect?" Needless to say, whether or not you are an Evangelical, run, run like a deer from this book and anyone recommending it.Once upon a time, there was a man who constantly forgot his wife's birthday.
