Warning, these "stories" are true and they can be very, very upsetting. They are written by women who served (or are still serving) as Journalists (mostly for newspapers, some for middle eastern magazines) in the war torn Middle East countries of Iraq, Iran, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and other areas. I could not read this book straight through. Very upsetting. But I did finish it. I felt I owed it to these brave women....if they could live these stories, the least I could do is read them and learn from them. They are truly very, very brave women. They risked their lives to tell the stories, the truths of conflict in that part of the world.Warning, these "stories" are true and they can be very, very upsetting. This is the first in what was a new series. I really enjoyed this book....had some surprised in it. I enjoyed the small town atmosphere too. I have #2 and #3 on Hold. I look forward to reading the continuing story.

I have to admit right now, I did not finish the book. I read the first 3 books in the series (I read them recently) and I could just not get into this one. Just didn't grab me like the first 3 did. Maybe I shouldn't be leaving a comment. But......

I have been reading the Molly Murphy Sullivan books and this one was the best so far! Really interesting.....lots of back & forth in solving the murders between Molly and her husband Daniel. He seems to be finally realizing that Molly has a lot to contribute to his investigations. Let's face it, he is a fairly typical husband/man from that era. Not real comfortable with his wife out of the kitchen, housework and child care role. But he's getting there!
ATTENTION: IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN READING THIS BOOK DO NOT READ COMMENTS BELOW. One of the commenters so very rudely let you know who the murderer was!!! I don't know why people do that. Reminds me of a friend (years ago) who went and saw the Star Wars movie "The Empire Strikes Back" then came over and as I was opening the door blurted out "Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father!!!" Some friend...

I enjoyed the book.....was a little unhappy with the ending. But others might like the ending. I think depends on your own (or friends/relatives) experiences the reader has had. The story was good, though sometimes I thought really long passages could have been cut down a little. I agree with midori_hon comment. A quick and pleasant read. I found the stories about the baby deliveries very interesting. This book is about 3 generations of Midwives working (one is retired from) work in Rhode Island. Good book.

I enjoyed every one of these short stories. But, yes, I did like some of them better than others. That's what I like about short stories. You get a real assortment.

I hadn't read this one of the "Her Royal Spyness" books so I finally reserved it and read it. I really enjoyed it! Finding who had murdered the victim took some real detective work from Lady Georgiana. The (sort of) maid Queenie was in great form....meaning she was hilarious! King George V and Queen Mary up to their usual selves too. And yes, David (aka The Prince of Wales) made a couple of appearances with Wallis Simpson always attached to him.
The Lady Georgiana books are not to be taken seriously....just get a cup of tea, a "digestive biscuit", settle down in a comfy chair and enjoy :>)I hadn't read this one of the "Her Royal Spyness" books so I finally reserved it and read it. OK confession time. I have read all the Eve Dallas "in Death" books. Love the books but I really do not like Lt. Eve Dallas. She is an arrogant, "I'm always right you are pretty much always wrong" type of person. She doesn't like vegetables so she just can't understand why anyone would or could like vegetables etc. Women who dress up and paint their nails and wear some make up, well they are just frou-frou idiots! That said, I love the "in Death" books and this one was one of the best! Warning, you will pretty much know who the killer is fairly early in the book (this is a deliberate reveal by the author), but that does not in any way take away from the excitement of going along with Dallas and Peabody tracking the killer down.OK confession time. Really really enjoyed it. Couldn't put it down....kept me up late at night. Really different plot. Opens with 3 shooters at a Mall in Maine. Several people die, many wounded, but the police get their quickly and one shooter is killed and 2 others commit suicide. Think it's over right? Wrong....after several years, one of the shooter's sister is furious at the death of her brother and decides to finish the job. She goes after the survivors. Excellent read.Really really enjoyed it. 16 year old Miranda, lives in North Eastern Pennsylvania and is as excited as everyone else in her town about the meteor that is going to hit the Moon in a few days. Nobody thinks anything big will happen. Even scientists and astronomers think it will not be a big deal. But it turns out to be a BIG deal! The strike shoves the Moon into a lower orbit which really affects life on Earth in bad ways. Huge, HUGE tsunamis wipe out the East and West coasts of America. The new, much stronger, gravitational pulls on the Earth's crust, bringing liquid magma up to the Earth's surface.....lots of new volcanos sprout and erupt. Also, earthquakes every where! Suddenly life on Earth as we knew it is gone....and life becomes very, very hard to sustain. As example, because of all the ash from the erupting volcanoes cause the sun to be mostly blocked pit all over the world, in Miranda's Pennsylvania home, a killing frost occurs in August! The story of Miranda and her Mother, and 2 brother's (college student Matt and 10 year old George) survival is told through Miranda's diary entries. Some are short, some long. This book was fascinating! It was very real. You could easily imagine this actually happening. Miranda is a 16 year old...so in the beginning, she acts like a 16 year old....sometimes self-centered, sometimes childish, sometimes very mature and helpful. I could not put this book down! While I tried to finish it at about 1:00am, I sleepily cursed the author for writing such an intriguing "can't put this book down" story! Oh well, who needs sleep? One last thing, this is book 1 of a 4 book series. I am on the Hold list for the next one and the one after that. Again, who needs sleep!?16 year old Miranda, lives in North Eastern Pennsylvania and is as excited as everyone else in her town about the meteor that is going to hit the Moon in a few days. I need to "quote" 2 commenters from below. I LOVE Virgil Flowers books of all the John Sandford novels. And, I too like Virgil more when he is in a rural, out in the farms, ranches and small towns of Minnesota. This one took place at a large college. It was good, kept my attention and the last 1/3 of the book really wound up being true Virgil Flowers for sure.
I look forward to the next VF book....but hope that one goes back to the backwoods area where Virgil is more comfortable. Oh, and I can hardly wait for his twins to be born! That might put a tiny crimp in Virgil's life style and detecting!I need to "quote" 2 commenters from below. I LOVE Virgil Flowers books of all the John Sandford novels. Wonderful! But I did take 1/2 star off. Not quite a 5 star. But when you have a series with as many books in it as this one, you are going to have some a little better than others. I agree with one comment about the character of Charlie evolving and developing as the series goes on. I really enjoyed "watching" him. As always, enjoyable story. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the "Instinct" series on television and was really disappointed it wasn't renewed for a 2nd year. I finally got the first book in the series and liked it a lot. This 2nd book was even better! I sure hope a 3rd book is being planned. Normally I like to read the book or books before seeing a movie or TV series made from the books. But this time, I'm glad I happened to see the TV series first. The cast for the TV series was just wonderful with "matching" the characters in the books! Really almost spooky how well they well they matched.I thoroughly enjoyed watching the "Instinct" series on television and was really disappointed it wasn't renewed for a 2nd year. I've been trying to read the Andy Carpenter books in order and this was the next one for me to read. After being introduced to author David Rosenfelt through his book "Dogtripping" (which is still one of my most favorite books I've ever read" I started on the Andy Carpenter books. I have enjoyed them all. This one starts with a carefully planned theft of a mixed breed dog from Andy Carpenter and his partner's Rescue Shelter. Now who on earth would steal a dog not worth anything monetary wise AND was up for adoption anyway? Well, that starts Andy, his wife Lori and his pack of "detectives" off on a pretty wild murder mystery. As is often or even usually the case, there is a person wrongly accused of murder and Andy is reluctantly defending him. I love this entire series....though I agree with the commenter who said maybe not one of the best in the Andy Carpenter series but the ending made up for it. Maybe I should have given it 4 stars instead of 5....but I sill loved the book.I've been trying to read the Andy Carpenter books in order and this was the next one for me to read.
